For his 1st round at the Australian Open and 1st match of the season, Lucas played against Ruben Bemelmans from Belgium. It was a tight match but in the end Lucas lost in 4 sets. His opponent played well during the first two sets and then was very solid in the tie break in the 4th set to end the match. During the tournament, Lucas has announced his collaboration with former german champion Tommy Haas.
