OPEN SUD DE FRANCE
04-11 January 2018

Lucas won his fifth ATP title in Montpellier by beating Richard Gasquet 7-6 6-2 in the final. He was very solid during the match not facing a single break point and being very agressive with his forehand at decisive points. During the tournament he also beat Taberner, Paire and Tsonga. It is the third time in 10 months Lucas Pouille has saved match points en route to an ATP World Tour title. He has also saved one match point against Jan-Lennard Struff and two match points against Jiri Vesely in second-round matches en route to titles in Stuttgart and Budapest in 2017. "I'm very happy with the win today," said Lucas. "Obviously it was a tough match. Richard is an amazing player and one of the best on tour. The first set was very important and taking the tie-break led me to the victory. I'm very happy with the way I played. It was a great week for me in Montpellier, winning the title in the city where I got my first wild card on tour at 18. It's a great feeling and I'm very happy with this. I hope to come back next year and defend my title.".
